A less intensive regimen of chemotherapy and radiation may be adequate treatment for individuals with early-stage Hodgkin’s lymphoma who have a favorable prognosis, according to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Here is some information about Hodgkin’s lymphoma: • It is a type of cancer that affects the immune system • Early symptoms include enlarged spleen, lymph nodes, and other body tissues related to the immune system • Other symptoms include fever, weight loss, fatigue, or night sweats Researchers from the University of Cologne representing the German Hodgkin Study Group randomly assigned over 1300 individuals with newly diagnosed, early-stage Hodgkin’s lymphoma who had a favorable prognosis to one of four treatment regimens. The first group received standard intensity chemotherapy and radiation. The second group received standard chemotherapy with reduced intensity radiation. The third group received reduced intensity chemotherapy with standard radiation, and the fourth group received reduced intensity chemotherapy and radiation. When the investigators compared the 5-year outcomes of patients who received regular vs. low intensity chemotherapy and regular vs. low intensity radiation, there were no significant differences in either freedom from treatment failure or overall survival. Those who received the most intense chemotherapy and radiation regimen, however, experienced the most drug toxicity. Today’s research suggests that a lower …

Many different symptoms, for 2 1/2 months now, night sweats was the 1st sign (6 mos.ago), afraid of cancer?
Ear infection the 1st wk of Jan, took an antibiotic~it came back after about 2 wks, went back to the Dr. the 2nd wk of Feb & had another ear infection, took antibiotics again. Went back to the Dr. March 10th, with what I thought was another ear infection, alot of pressure/fluid in my ears, pain in my ears, really swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, hurts to swallow & my neck all the way around is sore & tender. Running a normal tempature sometimes, but get cold-clammy & then other times I’ll start chilling~getting hot & then cold, & had a temp 2 days ago of 100.3. I’ve looked on the internet & it comes back to throat/mouth cancer. The only symptom of that, that I don’t have is I hoarse voice, but today woke up with my voice definitely different than normal. He gave me Alegra-D to see if that helps, so far after 3,12- hour doses, it’s not doing anything. Doc told me to make an appt. w/ an ENT & he wants to see me again in 7 days. My dad had lymphoma & cancer is prominent in his family.???
The March 10th visit to the Dr. showed NO infection anywhere (sinuses included), just fluid build up in my ears. Throat a little red. (Since yesterday can’t eat any solid foods. Afraid of choking, can barely get my pills down (Tylenol, Advil & Allegra-D) they get stuck, like there’s a lump in my throat.) He was hesitant, but I insisted on a strep test. That should be back in today; JUST called, it’s not back yet. : ( I did post this on "other – diseases", but didn’t get many responses, so re-posted in this category) Thanks and please no mean responses.
Thanks Janeway~and no, he’s not aware of my family history w/ cancer. I will tell him, when I see him on Monday the 17th. Or maybe I should tell them when they call me back w/ the strep results???????? I also forgot to tell the Doc about the night sweats! Not feeling well, not thinking right.

Please Help! Lymphoma Question.?
You know how they say that night sweats in a symptom of lymphoma right? Well does anybody know if that means soaking night sweats every single night while you have Lymphoma?
I am 29 years old…No cancer on my Mom’s side or my Dad’s side of the family what so ever…None at all!! Well my doctor is concerned that I may have Lymphoma because I went to the doctor’s because of horrible night sweats that I had been having for a month. I also showed her some enlarged lymph nodes that I had in my pelvis area. She freaked and sent me to an Oncologist…which made me freak…Of course! Well I am scheduled for a Lymph Node Dissection next week, but am hesitant to have it since I just had surgery in October and am not really up to another one.
My night sweats have pretty much gone away for about three weeks now. I have done a ton of reading on Lymphoma and I read a lot about the night sweats, but nothing talks about the consistancy of them.
Can somebody please help me with this?
